Useful Servicing Tips and Time Savers
1. Stereo Models. Poor Sound. Use Jane Fonda Workout disc to check.
Useful titles as test discs. Star Wars –Runs to 59 minutes. Fraternity Vacation –has good quality video and a B/W section at the beginning of the movie.
2. SJT/SKT Door won’t open. Problem with function gear.
3. J/K Series –RCA Shipping Tabs. Left in player?
4. J/K Series –Disc won’t completely load. Lube spine tabs.
5. J/K Series –Function Motor. Not enough power to load disc.
Voltage to motor=15V. Check R5917.
6. J/K Series –Front panel buttons not working. Check connector to panel and if necessary rebuild switches.
7. Low end RCA models. Won’t work with flat panel TV. Install A/V kit.
8. F/G Series –Stylus arm won’t advance. Won’t play past 30 minutes. New belt does not fix problem. 3 possible causes.
9. F/G Series –Color unstable. Adjust turntable rotation speed.
10. J/K Series (J/K400) –Late start to picture. Does not start at ‘0’ on 400 player display. What to check? (This can vary by stylus, but can be adjusted, view this video to see how.)
11. J/K 400 –Smeary and /or intermittent picture. Clean connector J4 on the PW6100 board. (RMK/Features Bd.)
12. J/K Series –Turntable rattles as it rotates. Check if spline is broken away from the platter. If the rattle happens after the TT has been serviced then check if thrust plate is in place.
14. J/K Series –The arm will not move when the disc is played. Check if the 3rd reduction gear is broken.
15. G200 & G250 –Video at the RCA connector is intermittent or grainy. Check video jack on the Stereo board for a bad contact. (Poor solder joint)
16. All Series –Cleaning the stylus. Use a fine tip camel hair artists brush dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Clean the stylus cleaner on the player too.
