Here will we discuss some of the most common problems and their solutions for repairing of CED Videodisc players.
HOW TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER ROD COUPLING ON RCA J/K MODEL CED PLAYERS.
The transfer rod coupling is a plastic connector that has a shaft and U shape on the end. The shaft goes into a slot on a large gear on the right back of the player. The U end goes over the transfer rod. When the gear rotates it moves the transfer rod to engage loading and unloading of the player and to begin the disc playing. If something binds up it can cause the coupling to break at the shaft. The coupling is available for purchase, please see the Parts and Services page for details.
Below is our video on how to replace the coupling. There are pictures provided below on where some of the screws and springs go for reference. If you need any further assistance or have questions we are always available though our email at videodiscjunkie@gmail.com thanks.
I have updated the instructions on how to replace the transfer rod coupling using a much easier method. This is not how the service manual recommends; so this method should be used at your own risk. If you choose to use the service manual method please disregard this video and continue to the next.

Well I hope this has been helpful and if you have any issues or have any questions please contact us. Thank you.
HOW TO PLACE A CED PLAYER INTO THE SERVICE POSITION.
This video shows how to place a SGT250 into the service position for testing and service work. It is a similar process for all F/G model players but they will vary slightly depending on if they are mono or stereo. The J/K players will also be a similar process.

Replacement servo belt kits are available from CEDatum on the products page. You can contact us to order one. They will include one replacement servo belt and several plastic washers for the servo motor shaft to keep the belt in place. Common J/K Player Issues
I would also like to go over some common J/K player issues and how to resolve them.
Cam Adjustment on F/G Players
Here is how to adjust the cams on the F/G Model CED Players. The on/off power switch is connected to a shaft that runs along the front of the player. On the shaft there are a series of cams that when aligned right will activate a mounted switch. If a disc is inserted in the player and the lever is moved while the caddy is still in the player it will force the cams out of alignment. This causes the player to not start playing the disc at the right spot on the lever, or not shut off at the right spot, and so on, and so fourth. Here is how the cams are adjusted.
Sync Plate Adjustment on F/G Players
Another common issue is turntable speed on the F/G model players. You will get a rainbow or black and white picture. You can use a turntable speed check strobe to verify if the platter is spinning to fast, or too slow. This will tell you if you need your sync plates further apart or closer together.
